Not much is known about E. R. Thornberg. He was one of the later stereoview photographers. Active out if Ames, Iowa, he produced at least 700 views from roughly 1914 until World War II. It is believed that Thornberg was some sort of electrical engineer, as many of his views were taken inside major United States factories. Why he concentrated on these industries for his subject matter is not known. Thornberg also made at least three trips to the west coast, and stereoviewed all of them.
His Yellowstone views are all from his third and final trip west. They were probably taken during the 1930’s, making them very late by stereoview standards. All seem to have the same style, although some have the Thornberg stamp on the reverse, while others are blank.
