THORNWARD SERIES
Chicago, Illinois
The
Thornward Series was issued by an unknown publisher during
the period 1890-1910. It was one of the
Montgomery Ward Co. house brands
and was sold through them. They issued several series of note
such as "Rod & Gun," the Spanish American War and an especially
fine Yellowstone series. Their Yellowstone views were scattered
among multiple printings and styles that even included a "color
tinted" series.
Chimney Cone. Mt. Schurz..
A less common style of Thornward Series
view is shown above. This plain beige mount shows a cone at
Monument Geyser Basin near Gibbon Meadows..
Ingersoll's Spring.
Most Thornward Series stereoviews have the
elaborate side artwork like the view shown above. This one is
on a yellowish-tan mount.
Crater of Grand Geyser.
The most common style by the company is
this type of a beige mount. The image is of Grand Geyser’s
Crater in the Upper Geyser Basin.
Stage Coach Fording, Willow Creek
They did issue a few color tinted views
such as the one pictured above. This view of a stagecoach ford
is quite a bit better in quality than many other publisher’s
colorized views of the day.
